The boys started the day with training at Churchie Pool between 08.00 and 09.15.

The bus arrived for us at 09.30 and we headed off for the Gold Coast. Everyone spent the time shopping and chilling out on the beach. A number of interesting purchases were made !

A new look !

We were collected again at 14.00 to return to Brisbane for the games against Brisbane Boys Grammar School. Once again we had the pleasure of playing in first class facilities that only Millfield School can begin to compete with back home.  These facilities were part sponsored by the USA Olympic Swimming Team who wanted a training base in Queensland before the 2000 Olympic Games. What might we get at BMS if London manages to secure the 2012 games....

After a thumping in Adelaide the U/14 team needed to get back into the groove.  Our opponents were fielding some Year 10 Queensland players but we proved equal to the task. Grammar School opened the scoring through their State U/17 centre forward who Alex Garraway did a great job on throughout the game. Shortly afterwards a back-flip from James Owen evened things up. Further goals from James Owen and Andrew Court made the score 3 - 1 to BMS at the end of the first period. Bryn Powell made a great save just before the end of the quarter from the massive Brisbane pit player. We were playing much better again and reacting well to turnovers at both ends of the pool. The second quarter saw two goals from Brisbane before Alex Feary slotted one in from 6 metres. Brisbane then got another three before the end of the quarter making it 4 - 6 to Brisbane at half time. The third quarter saw BMS create, but fail to convert, many chances as we strove to catch up. We did dominate the period and levelled the score at 6-6. The final period was pretty much the same with Phil Willshire having to work hard in defence and Bryce Titman sacrificing a shooting opportunity to play a lovely ball to James Owen: the keeper was equal to the shot. James did score the last goal of the game to square the scores after another fine save from Bryn and a very accurate pass.  Another draw 7-7 means the boys stay undefeated against school sides and this one was bigger and stronger than any other side we had met.

The seniors were without Guy Titman who was recovering from something he ate the previous evening, Matt Hay substituted. Guy was feeling ok by the time the game started but it was decided that it was better for him to rest.

The pitch size was more to our liking and we started efficiently in defence and from two good turnovers scored breakaway goals from Adam Monico and Robert Thurmott off drives down the right hand side. This was the first time the seniors had been in the lead all trip and you could sense the confidence grow, especially on the bench. Brisbane got one back to make it 2 - 1 at the end of the first quarter. This was a match of quality shooting from both sides and we certainly needed it to beat the state no.2 goalkeeper.  Rohan scored a cracker in the second period as we kept the lead to half time.  The Grammar School signalled their intent to stay in the game when the centre forward, jumped like a predator shark and struck the ball straight out of Chris Craig's hands, after a fine save, into the goal.  The match stayed even through the third quarter with two goals per team.  At the beginning of the last quarter we were hit with two quick goals but the boys showed great resolve and replied with two good goals from Matthew Hay and a scorcher from Sam Whittle.  Both sides had chances to score again and the final whistle went with the ball trickling towards our goal-line.  A well deserved and welcome draw!

Both games were good results for the BMS boys as both Brisbane teams fielded several State players.

All BMS boys were collected by the Churchie billets from Brisbane Grammar School after the game.
